Together We Can Make a Difference

YMCA Day of Service – Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day, the Stratford YMCA is offering a volunteer opportunity to WALK WITH US and make our community a better place by beautifying our neighborhood and picking up litter.

Join us as we walk to clean up the streets around the YMCA with some of your favorite Y staff on Monday, April 22 beginning at 12:00pm.

Also, join us on Wednesday, April 24, 4:00pm to 5:00pm. We will be joining Sterling House and other Community Partners to clean up Shakespeare Park.

Together we can make a difference.


Paint Sip Repeat

Kid’s Paint and Sip at the Stratford Y

Join us for a healthy, safe and fun event for children! Everyone leaves with a piece of art that they have created!

Children will paint a picture, sip healthy smoothies, and share their talents with the group. For more information, please contact Ashley at afedak@cccymca.org.

Our team offers a challenging, engaging, and fun program that stresses stroke technique, starts, turns, and basic to advanced training. Our team ranges from entry level competitive swimmers to championship caliber swimmers – all are welcome and encouraged to look into the BSY team!

Healthy Kids Day, April 20, 2024 10am-1pm

Find Your Fun, Find Your Y At Healthy Kids Day!

The Stratford YMCA is hosting their annual Healthy Kids Day® on Saturday, April 20 10am-1pm. This free, open to the public, annual event features a variety of family-friendly activities to encourage healthy kids, healthy families and a healthy start to the summer season Come and celebrate with us! We’ll have visits and special demonstrations from community partners.

Reclaiming Your Health

Join Our Joints In Motion For Arthritis Aquatics Class!

WHEN: Mondays 11:15am-12:15pm

· Multiple exercise activities, including: joint check/warm-up, range of motion/stretching, strengthen­ing, cardiovascular endurance, and joint check/cool down
· Balance and coordination activities
· Helps improve balance and posture with a variety of exercise for feet, legs, core and glutes, along with water walking routines. Range of motion exercise for every joint from head to toe to help with arthritis
· Each class includes a health education component from the program formally known as PACE- People with Arthritis Can Exercise
· Relaxation and breathing activities. Instructors may include weight bearing, posture/body mechan­ics, body awareness, and socialization activities

To improve:

· Functional ability
· Self-confidence
· Self-care
· Mobility
· Muscle strength
· Coordination

To reduce:

· Fatigue
· Pain
· Stiffness

Note: Participants do not need to know how to swim to participate in the class


Come Out and Play For Family Fun Day!

Fundraiser at the Shelton Sports Center

Join us on May 16 at the Shelton Sports Center for our second fundraiser that you don’t want to miss!! The event runs from 5:30pm-7:30pm and 50% of the proceeds go to the Stratford YMCA Annual Campaign! During this time, participants will have access to unlimited mini golf, the golf range, Funbowl blowing, the batting cages, and unlimited credits to the Game Zone with their best friends from the Y, family members, and even staff members!

Triple Your Confidence

2024 Race4Chase Youth Triathlon

Race4Chase is a six week youth triathlon training program aimed to provide kids ages 6-12 with a safe and non-competitive environment to discover the sport of triathlon. Under the direction of dedicated and spirited coaches and coach volunteers Race4Chase brings together kids from different athletic abilities and backgrounds. At the culmination of camp, all youth athletes compete in a USAT sanctioned triathlon at Camp Sloper in Southington on Saturday, August 3.

Complete one application per child. If selected, completion of a registration packet is required.

Due to limited space, selection priority will be given to first time registrations, a demonstration of need, and those indicating a sincere desire to participate for the duration of the program.

Each participant will try to meet a fundraising goal of $250. Every dollar donated to the Stratford YMCA stays in our communities and goes directly to serving youth and families in need. We will help participants with ideas to meet their fundraising goal.


Are You Whistle Worthy?

Lifeguard Certification Courses at the Stratford YMCA

Red Cross Life Guard Certification includes CPR, AED, and First Aid. For ages 15 years and up. Candidates must be able to swim 300 yards (550 for water front, demonstrating rhythmic breathing, untimed) tread water for two minutes (without using hands), and complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds. Blended learning course, online and classroom. Must attend all classes.

FIRST TIME CERTIFICATION –Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19  9am—5pm Friday, May 17 through Monday, May 20 9am—5pm

RECERTIFICATION: Saturday, April 20 9am—5:30pm/Sunday, April 21 9am—5:30pm/Monday, May 20 9am—5:30pm

No School No Problem

Y Vacation Club

Even though schools are closed, the Stratford YMCA is here for your child care needs. Drop your child off with our experienced staff for a fun-filled day of games, activities, arts & crafts, swimming, and more!

Please bring a nut-free lunch, a bathing suit, and a towel. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items, so please leave your electronics at home. Preregistration is required. Registration ends two days before event so we can staff properly.

AGES: 5-12

WHEN: April 15 – April 19

TIME: 7:30 am – 5:30 pm

FEE: Members- $55 per day/Program Participant- $110 per day

Additional Info: All participants not currently in the before/after school program will need to complete a registration packet, provide a current health form, and medication/medication authorization form, if needed, prior to attending the Y Vacation Club.

 


Summer Day Camp

WELCOME TO SUMMER DAY CAMP!

The YMCA believes all kids have great potential and deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. At YMCA day camp kids and teens can develop skills, self-confidence, new friendships and a sense of belonging – all while having tons of fun.

In order to have fun and thrive, kids of all ages need to feel both physically and emotionally safe. When you drop your child off at a camp, you can rest assured that their total well-being will be supported. Safety is always our number one priority! We keep kids healthy and safe while providing enriching experiences. As a leading nonprofit committed to nurturing the potential of youth, the Y has been a leader in providing summer camp for over 130 years. Our experienced and caring staff and volunteers model the positive core Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility that help build character.

Financial assistance is available for families who need it to ensure that all kids in our community can have enriching summer experiences. These forms are required to apply: Financial Assistance Forms

If your child is 14-15 years of age, they may be interested in our Counselor in Training program. In our CIT program, they will receive valuable job interviewing skills, child care training, leadership experience, team building, and problem-solving skills. Celebrate With Us!

Birthday Party Packages at the Stratford Y

At all of our birthday parties, a party host will be provided to help parents set up and clean up from the party. Parties are two hours—the first hour is in the pool, and the second hour is in our party room. You’ll provide the decorations and food, we’ll provide the fun!

Project Search Training Program

The Stratford Y, the Woodruff Family Y and the Lakewood-Trumbull Y are participating in the Project SEARCH Training Program along side The Kennedy Collective, Milford Public Schools, Stratford Public Schools and the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services. Individuals will hold un-paid intern positions in membership, child care, wellness and facilities. While working side by side with Y staff members, interns will learn business processes, procedures and communication skills. They’ll also gain independence, self-confidence and self-esteem. Project SEARCH exposes individuals to a variety of careers and helps prepare them for future employment.

To be eligible to participate, individuals must be between 18-30 years of age, diagnosed with a Developmental Disability and eligible for State of Connecticut DDS programs or willing to pay privately.

Togetherhood

SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER

Togetherhood is a nationwide program that gives Y members a way to get to know people and strengthen our community through volunteerism. The program is led by a committee of Y members that decides on projects and carries them out throughout the year.
