Ending Youth Homelessness

Date: October 8, 2019

The Fairfield County housing agencies, including our Alpha Community Services Y, work very well together in combating the terrible scourge of chronic homelessness. As more and more youth become homeless, we have developed new strategies to support young adults (18-24) including social service support to get to the root problems of homelessness, as well as creating new housing stock for those 18-24 years of age. There are so many bright sports to turn to including our elected officials who recognize this challenge, and who are supporting our local effort. U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, and Congressman Jim Himes, visited with housing leaders at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport to announce a $3M grant to combat youth homelessness. We are very grateful for their advocacy and for the support from the U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development. – Dave Stevenson, CCCY President & CEO
