Soundview Family YMCA Launches LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
Date: November 2, 2021
The Soundview Family YMCA, a branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, is launching LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a 12-week exercise program for cancer survivors. The program will be offered at no cost beginning March 2022 and is available to adults 18 years or older living with or beyond cancer treatment.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is an evidence-based program that helps cancer survivors reclaim their health and well-being following a cancer diagnosis. “Every survivor deserves the opportunity to be a part of this empowering program,” said Colleen Villano, Director of Healthy Living. “The Soundview Family YMCA is here to ensure that those facing chronic illness have a community of care behind them.”
Participating YMCAs create a welcoming community in which survivors can improve their strength and physical fitness, diminish the severity of therapy side effects, develop supportive relationships, and improve their quality of life.
“The Soundview Family YMCA is more than excited to offer the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program to help cancer survivors build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all,” said Matt LaPrino, Executive Director. “At the Y, we bring people together. This transformational program brings those who may need support together, providing an instant bond. The Y is here to make our community stronger, one person, one day at a time.”
Since 2007, the LIVESTRONG Foundation has been the YMCA’s partner in developing and delivering LIVESTRONG at the YMCA. To date 79,726 cancer survivors have participated in the program nationwide.
