It’s All About the Fall

Fall Prevention Awareness Week – September 19-23

Falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injury in people over age 60. The Soundview Family YMCA will offer a week filled of activities, lectures and classes to help.

Monday: Ivy Rehab-String Step presentation (12:00 PM – 1:30 PM) Work with individuals to assess and address items that could put them off balance including medication side effects, vitamin deficiency, poor vision and talk about rehabilitation approaches that include:Therapeutic exercise to improve strength
Balance-specific training to improve balance and vestibular function
Home safety and recommendations to remove throw rugs, install grab bars and handrails. And more!

Tuesday: AOA Stretch & Stability (12:15 PM – 1:00 PM) Get stronger and improve your balance through exercises that strengthen the ankle, knee, and hip joints all in a fun and social setting.

Wednesday: Lobby Demonstration (10:00 AM -12:00 PM) By exercising, you can improve your balance and your strength, so you can stand tall and feel more confident when walking. Join us in the lobby for a demonstration of effective, balance building exercises you can do in your own home.

Thursday: Hearing Screening with John Caswell from Discount Hearing (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)

Friday: Clean Your Eye Glasses (1:30 PM – 3:30 PM): Complimentary eye glass cleanings with Denise in the lobby
