Forever in service to our community

2020 has been a year like no other in recent history. For many people across our country and in our communities, there were times it felt like there was no relief in sight – and that feeling continues as we approach year end. We at the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA never want anyone to feel that sense of despair.

As the leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community, we’ve been working harder than ever before to make sure everyone in our community feels safe and cared for as we navigate these challenging times together.

Throughout this year, we’ve been determined to hold our community together and provide hope to the weary. We’ve launched services to support those on the frontlines and we’ve focused on meeting the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. Here in our community, we’ve:

  • Child care centers were opened to provide emergency child care services for the children of healthcare professionals
  • Homeless outreach was expanded, overflow shelters were opened and meals were provided to shelter families so they could stay in place
  • The food insecure were met with meal and grocery pickup and delivery services so residents could safely remain in place
  • Daily personal phone calls to check in on members to review their personal needs were made, especially our active older adult population in hopes of avoiding social isolation
  • Families were engaged with e-mails and virtual at home enrichment activities and supplemental academic lessons for our school aged child care participants and early learners
  • Virtual health and wellness classes, book clubs and member socials were offered daily, to help reduce stress and maintain social connections, routines and physical and emotional health
  • The Y is the host site for blood and food drives
  • And while our branches are temporarily closed, membership fees were waived to help reduce their personal financial burden

These services have come at a cost that we simply can’t continue to meet without additional help.

Can we count on your support this Giving Tuesday? Every dollar donated to the Central Connecticut Cost YMCA stays local and makes a lasting impact on the people in our community.

Your gift will help us continue to create a stronger community for all.

The Y. For a better us.
